Happy Earth Day!

OVERVIEW from Planetary Collective on Vimeo.

Over forty years ago, the astronauts of Apollo 8 orbited the moon for the first time and captured the iconic "Blue Marble" photographs of the earth from space. The Overview Effect,  describes the radical shift in perspective that happened as a result of these images. To many, the world could no longer be viewed as an inert lump of rock, but an alive, fragile, interconnected, super organism.

The short film embedded above was directed by Guy Reid and explores the phenomenon through interviews with five astronauts who have experienced the Overview Effect. It was released to mark Earth Day 2012 - an annual event that began back in 1970 to promote environmental activities world wide!

Here at TRJFPB we are celebrating earth day by transforming mounds of intercepted rocket into delicious pesto! So far this month we have intercepted over a tonne of food destined for landfill. Tomorrow (Thursday 23rd April) we will be giving away ingredients for you to cook up a dish from home to serve at our community cafe on Friday. Ingredients can be collected from One Church (Gloucester Place) from 3:30-4:30pm. For more details check out our facebook page and twitter

In other news, we have reached £2,775 on our crowdfunder campaign!! We still have over £12000 to raise in just 30 days so please keep spreading the word! Find out more about our campaign to bring a 7-day waste food cafe to Brighton here

Until then, Happy Earth Day!
